I woke up this morning reading the news and feeling a bit like, to misquote Churchill, that the lights are starting to go out. And then I remembered all the good folks doing great work in our communities in Grimsby and Cleethorpes, and all the beacons of light that are doing their bit to make their corner of the world a better place, to misquote my mate River James. And then I realised that we all have a duty to bring our bit of unique light to the world, in the hope that it might reignite someone else's candle. Sometimes I post and it feels as though I'm making art that no-one sees or cares about. And then I remember all the people who've left a workshop a little brighter, or gone to enjoy the Fitties beach after attending one of my talks, and the difference me showing up for an Enrolled Freemen of Grimsby meeting makes. And all of the countless other people litterpicking (Zac), looking after poorly loved ones (my friend Kath), offering their kitchen table for a community gathering (Katie), attending parish council meetings (Eliza's grandma) or just offering someone a much-needed smile (Mr Blue Door) and I think. The worlds needs beacons of light, now more than ever. x
