Grimsby Charter Day

colouroutsidetheli

March 11 marks the 800+ years since King John signed the charter to give the town cerain freedoms and a market. I attended an event on Freeman Street market at the weekend. A reminder, if one were needed, of the continuing importance of what markets have to offer. They are more than places of commerce and transaction. They were, and still are, places to meet, chat, eat, encounter, nuture connections and continuance. Markets are important places for people to make face to face contact and to engage with the person who turns up week in, week out to sell their wares. Markets honour human contact and connection. x
