I had the great fortune to stay in Stamford in Lincolnshire last weekend. What a joy to walk among the creamy stones of centuries-old streets. We ate at The Crown and the Stamford Country Lounge where we'd had Askers bread, so I was delighted to find this bakers so we could take a lovely loaf home back to Grimsby! We also had breakfast in the Drawing Room above Sinclairs Collectables seated by a jug of tulips and overlooking the street below. Such a fabulous place to walk around, and it shows that decisions were made regarding development that have left this place as a shining example of what places could be like were it not for the ravages of car domination, with the street patterns retaining their centuries-old rhythms.
